The March of Hythe
Hythe is a town built around a border fortress at the northeast of the kingdom, on the southern banks of the Vold river, which flows west here. It has a population of around 200. Atop a hill at the center of the town is the original fort, which includes the hall of the local Margrave inside the wall, along with the dwellings of his thralls, a shrine to the goddess of the local river, and a barracks for the town guards. Immediately outside the inner wall lie the houses that were originally built around the fort, and along the river immediately to the north of the fort lies the town mill. This second layer also contains the temple of Agunesh for which the town has become well known, and the market square where people from the surrounding villages gather to hold a market twice every month. These structures are surrounded by a more recently constructed wall, with gates to the south, west, and east. The wall only encloses 3 sides, with the river enclosing the fourth. Outside the wall is the farmland which sustains the town, as well as the hovels of those who are too poor or socially outcast to live within the walls.
The Margrave of Hythe is Ashsieg, son of Ashulf, son of Hirzfram. Beyond the town, his holdings (the March of Hythe) include a few smaller border forts along the river in the area and some outlying villages. His family became nobles under the reign of Brant, who established the current eastern marches. His family's arms are below.
